reviving my own thread
So, I got bored one night when I couldn't sleep and ended up ordering more than 15 MS-related books from Amazon.
Of course, I often can't read b/c of double vision - but I bought an eye patch (only use it at home) and then I do better. This has been the first time in nearly 3 months that I've been able to sit down and read a book!!
I wanted to add some recommendations of my own now:
Women Living with Multiple Sclerosis: Conversations on Living, Laughing and Coping
I REALLY like this book!
(this is written by a woman with MS - who "met" several women from an online support board - and they ended up starting their own email group - all the women are in different phases of life and the disease - and they discuss their issues, etc. Proceeds go to the NMSS, btw. I'm really "enjoying" this book..and highly recommend it - I've cried and I've laughed.)
Facing the Cognitive Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis
I read this one, too, and liked it - it was the story of a lawyer who has MS - and the challenges of the cognitive problems and how he had dealt with it and continues to deal with it. It was a little informative...but mostly just another "true story" which I really like anyhow...now I just read true stories about people with MS.
I also ordered the MS Diet Book - and Amazon ended up sending me 5 copies of it!! Do you think that's a sign? I have not started any kind of diet plan or healthy eating - and I've gained a TON of weight. I can not seem to get my act together....and it's becoming a problem. Maybe I should scatter the books around my house so I see them everywhere? Amazon hasn't responded to my email letting them know they sent me 5 of them.
Multiple Sclerosis: A Guide for Families
I really like what I've read in this, too - tho, I've just skimmed it so far. It looks really good.
I also got the following (all of them are MS related and published or revised within last 2 years or so):
Remembering the Bone House: An Erotics of Place and Space (this was recommended by MS World - the next two books are by the same author)
Carnal acts: Essays
Waist-High in the World
Progressive Multiple Sclerosis: New Hope, New Challenges
Living Beyond Multiple Sclerosis: A Women's Guide
(this is like a continuation of the first book I mentioned above)
The MS Workbook: Living Fully With Multiple Sclerosis
My Story: A Photographic Essay on Life with Multiple Sclerosis (this is pretty neat, and with a foreward by Richard Pryor's wife)
The MS Recovery Diet
Exercises for Multiple Sclerosis: A Safe and Effective Program to Fight Fatigue, Build Strength, and Improve Balance
MS and Your Feelings: Handling the Ups and Downs of Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis for Dummies
Curing MS
Managing the Symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis
The First Year: Multiple Sclerosis: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed
Multiple Sclerosis and Having a Baby: Everything You Need to Know about... (this book was written many years ago, tho)
