The Goodell family in St. Johns County is facing another tragedy.
Kollin Goodell, 14, is being treated at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville after being diagnosed with leukemia.
His father, Kenny, is in the final stages of Lou Gehrig's disease, a weakening of the muscles officially known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.
Kenny Goodell is barely able to move or speak.
The family gained attention after Builders Care, a charity of the Northeast Florida Builders Association, expanded the family's house from three to five bedrooms. Kenny and Karen Goodall have six children; Kollin is the oldest boy.
Chris Simons, pastor and director of operations for Builders Care, said Thursday that Kollin remained in good spirits and the family is putting their faith in God.
The family will speak in the coming days about ways the community can help them, Simons said.
