I've never been there, but that memory is still so very fresh in my mind.

I was absolutely HORRIFIED when he was assassinated. He was the only person in my life who made sense when talking about the reason for all the hatred I was seeing in this world. Even worse, my neighbors (even church elders) REJOICED at his assassination!

I was only 8 when he came to Chicago. I begged my father to take me to see him in person, but he said I was too young. I cried when I saw how my city treated him, and I cried when I found out my neighbors were there throwing rocks at him and calling him a "monkey."

When I was old enough to cross major streets on my bike, I used to ride up to Marquette Park - just to remember what he tried to do here.
