Some of the past articles that I've seen involve using nerves that extend out to the base of an arm and then are connected to a bionic arm. This is effective for people who have had their arms cut off. However, it wouldn't be effective for a PALS because the nerves of PALS which are the axons of the lower motor neurons are destroyed by ALS.

However, it appears that this system being used by Heywood taps directly into the brain upstream of the upper and lower motor neuron system. Awesome. I like it. The good thing about it is that unlike much of the research, this technology is fairly advanced. They have a place "to start" and build on. Go technology. Maybe they can call me the "Six million dollar PALS"
