Lightbulb I had a stroke in my left eye...

several years ago. I had a hole in my vision like that. Only in the daytime
it was purple and I could still see a little. In lower light it was a total hole.

When I went to the eye doctor he said he could see the hemorrhage, and I was sent for an angiogram which confirmed the blood clot in the right branch vein.
Everything in the eye is upside down, so your lower left loss is really anatomically at the top.

Doctors can see papilledema clearly. So I would trust the doctor and get it checked out ASAP. You might need a MRI of the brain, because some pituitary adenomas (mostly benign) can impinge on vision this way.

Many people have pituitary adenomas, and don't know it. They are found on autopsy more frequently than 20%. Most do not cause problems.

Some drugs can cause increased pressure of the CSF (spinal fluid) but usually this is on both sides equally, if present.

Did this come up suddenly? When I had my retinal stroke, I had aching in that eye for about a week and a vague headache. Nothing remarkable tho.
It cleared up by itself, and I had my blood pressure meds changed, because stress at work was becoming unbearable then. It was thought to be due to an extreme blood pressure elevation that lasted for hours...so I have refused assignments stressful like that since. I have all my vision back and no other
signs of retinal deterioration.

The technician who did my angiogram, said it looked like a trauma type injury.
Being hit in the face, or in a car accident, etc. But I had nothing like that happen...just monsterously stressful day at work!

I would get all the tests they request of you. Don't worry yet until all the data comes in. Mine was thought at first to be a detached retina, and it turned out it wasn't.
