I'm not an expert (legal or medical), yet I believe that what your original ortho. stated is accurate. I've heard and read the same.
Trauma/injury can have delayed yet continual effects.
I aknow that when my neighbor was in an accident, she was also advised to retain "open medical." The first of the effects - delayed a year - she felt from her accident was detatched retinas.
