A little off-subject about weight gain because I have no experience with Lyrica. But in regards to exercise with a "bum" foot, I have the same problem. Any weight on my foot and I am in real pain.
My primary doctor suggested swimming. Sounds like a good idea because you can exercise with no weight bearing down.
Of course the drawback is that most of us don't have a swimming pool at our disposal!
But if there is any possibility of regular swim, it might help. I have tried it when traveling and can get a good workout.
