Hi Dorrie:

I am in a protocol at Cornell. It's called THE ACCORD PROGRAM. I get my Lantus, and High Blood Pressure meds, and all strips.

One day, (about 2 years ago), there was a representative standing next to me, and she was talking to a physician about BYETTA.

I had never heard of this. I gather it was just coming out.

For whatever reason, Cornell did not offer this to me. Perhaps it was due to my being diligent about my dieting, or the Lantus doing it's job....I really don't know.

I will definitely ask them what they think about Byetta at my next appointment.

I go there again on June 20. I cancelled today's appointment because I spent all day yesterday at Beth Israel and my husband got his C.R.O.W. boot.

It's just too hard going on 3 access-a-rides in one day, going to various appointments, and then the following day, hopping on yet another access-a-ride. It was not a major visit, just a regular visit, so they said 'no problem, come in on the 20th". Thank goodness. They are very amenable at Cornell. They work with a person.

Oh, and get this. I could not eat very much yesterday. Just a bananna and one strawberry. I DID drink water all day long, to stay rehydrated.

When I got up yesterday morning, my sugar was 118. When I got home from Beth Israel Hospital at 7 p.m. last night, I said "let me take my sugar, I want to know what eating one banana and one strawberry (I did have good breakfast), I just wondered what my sugar would be like. I did not feel faint, I felt just fine.

Well my sugar was 102. I haven't seen a number like that in god knows how long. I said "wow, 102".

Then I ate my dinner that I brought home from the World Food Market.

I purchaed some multigrain (brown rice) California Roll. (Never had multigrain California Roll before, all the Japanese places around me, use white rice. Well, it was delicious. Then I tasted the Chicken and Broccoli that I bought also. It was a small thing $5.00. I didn't want to cook dinner after all that day travelling on Acces-a-ride buses.

I then read the top of the thing. It said Dark Meat chicken.

I tasted it. It was disgusting. I hate a bit and all the broccoli, And I also had my regular salad.

This morning my sugar was 133. This is not something to go OH MY GOD, my sugar is 133.

But I'll never bring home Dark meat chicken. I'll probably never bring home anything prepared ever again. I always make my stuff fresh.

I will, however bring home the multi-grain brown rice california roll. That was Out of This World.

I find I can't eat prepared cooked food. I don't know how it's prepared. What sauces are used, and if there is sugar used in the seasoning.

It's just better to make it myself.

So I hope the 102 is not just a memory. It would be awesome to see that number again. But I know, it's only because I ate only a banana and a strawberry (while on the Access-a-ride). I did however know enought to swig that bottled water all day long. It's very important to drink and rehydrate.

Take care,

Melody
