Greetings again, Marci! I'm very intrigued by your situation and have continued to dabble in investigating alternatives to ordinary cleaning/hygiene products.

Today, I googled the phrase, "cleaning hair without shampoo" and was astonished by what I learned. You might try it and take a look at the varying testimonials, it was actually encouraging for the most part!

Baking soda may also prove to be a viable alternative to soap. I've looked around a bit and found that it is a very good skin cleanser and deodorant just as it is, mixed with water to form a loose paste. To make deodorant, mix a batch of baking soda and corn starch (only as a bonding agent) and pour it into a mold. Simply dampen that block before applying it to underarms. Avoid applying it directly after shaving.
