I had root canals in 2 different teeth in the past 6 years. The first tooth recently developed a deep cavity, and it could no longer be saved. It was extracted. It was a back tooth, and the empty space doesn't bother me at all. The oral surgeon says the gum will just grow in on its own, and fill in the empty space.
The root canal was expensive. Had I realized that I would lose the tooth anyways, I wouldn't have done it.
Bryanna has good advice: Learn about the risks and the benefits, and weigh them.
