Hey Jon!

Glad to hear from you! I wish you were doing better!

I am not glad to hear that your situation has not changed for the better. Although I more than understand your predicament. I agree that older people have a much more difficult time obtaining what they deserve in many different circumstances. However, your situation at the dental school is typical of many others who are not your age. Most of the time when people feel they have to go along with the system it's because we don't know where else to turn. This profession has perfected that scenerio by scaring the crap out of most people in one way or another. I have to believe that one day that all will change for the better!!

If you could afford it, I do think that you could get another opinion from a dentist who is in private practice. In every office that I have worked in over the last 30 years, it has not been uncommon to see people for 2nd opinions who were in the midst of treatment at a dental school. As I have told you, your situation is what typically goes on in dental schools. You may learn from a 2nd opinion that the work that's been done is ok which would help to ease your mind a bit. But there is always that chance that you will be told differently.

I have recommended others here to do some reading on the IAOMT website which has a list of dentists in every state that belong to that organization. Many of those dentists typically treat their patients differently than what you have encountered at the dental school because they see all of the failures and all of the people that need help. Some of them even offer free phone consultations.

I know this has caused you alot of stress and I don't want to push you in any direction. I just want you to be treated fairly and honestly. I want you to have good dental care so it can last you the rest of your life without constant pain or discomfort. Here is the website.... www.IAOMT.org. They have a place where you can look up dentists in your state.

If you just want to continue as you are, I completely respect that decision and hope that you will keep in touch with us along the way.

My best regards to you Jon......

Nothing done in uppers. I do not trust the intern who is doing it, and I don't believe they'll do anything about it. The department head protects the intern, but he doesn't know all the different things the intern tells me.

I'd love to have a good dentist evaluate what's been done and told to me. Problem is, I don't have any way to find who is a good dentist. And, if I found one, they probably wouldn't be willing to be involved without doing the work.

I feel I'm a hostage at this point. Nothing I can do. I need an advocate to do something for me, but don't know anyone who does this. As I told you, if I go to the state board, I have to agree not to have a lawyer. Even if I had a lawyer, it would take years to finish a suit like this. I feel there's no way out . Older people have problems like this with many other things besides denistry. It's obvious that time is not on our side, so we're not a threat.

Yes, I'm trying to keep a positive outlook, but I'm also very much a realist.

Keep up your good work. It really helps to have someone explain things as honestly as you do.

Jon
