Default CAMR Press Release

This is similar to what you are talking about Boann, when you asked about a collaborative statement. CAMR is a coalition of which PAN is a member.

CAMR STATEMENT SUPPORTING MICHAEL J. FOX
October 24, 2006

Please attribute the following statement to Sean Tipton, president, Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR):

"Michael J. Fox has appeared in political ads in support of candidates who are in favor of embryonic stem cell research and the promise it holds for the millions of American patients with Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cancer, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, and other diseases and disorders. Those of us in the medical and scientific community who work in this field, as well as those who are afflicted with diseases and disorders that stem cell research can have an impact on, are grateful for Michael's generous offer to be the voice for the millions whose voices go unheard.

"For Rush Limbaugh to claim that Michael was exaggerating his symptoms, or 'acting,' during the taping of the video for sympathy is appalling and, quite frankly, a desperate political cry for help. Unfortunately, this callous disregard for millions of patients and their families is characteristic of opponents of stem cell research. As Americans, we must pull together and support those who are suffering, and find ways to offer hope for better treatments and cures. Politically motivated, uneducated and medically inaccurate comments like Mr. Limbaugh's only serve to tear at the very fabric of what this nation was founded upon. We at CAMR, along with the rest of America, await a national public apology from Mr. Limbaugh, and hope that voters will let their voices be heard on this issue in November."

The Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR) is the nation's leading pro-cures coalition. It is comprised of nationally-recognized patient organizations, universities, scientific societies, and foundations advocating for the advancement of breakthrough research and technologies in regenerative medicine - including stem cell research and somatic cell nuclear transfer - in order to cure disease and alleviate suffering for individuals with life-threatening illnesses and disorders.

[I know what you are thinking Boann - it doesn't address the issue.....lol
