we've gotta stop saying...
"embryonic stem cell research". It's the "embryonic" part that jolts the listener into whatever visions that they have in their mind connecting "the destruction of potential human beings" to "embryonic stem cells".
Shorten it to "stem cell research" and make it clear that it is not just "human" stem cells, or stem cells from human embryos.
We're not trying to use "newspeak" on anybody. It's just a shame that the images in peoples mind are frozen in the mode of cell research=killing of potential people. We should make it clear that ANY cell replacement techniques involve the use of a small number of certiain cells that can be magnified into a visible, viable , useful implant by cell culture techniques. Our goal is not to develop an "industry" based on the wholesale destruction of human diploid DNA, but instead to culture cells that belong to the individual themselves. Why is this constantly overlooked? cs
