Tiff,
Fortunately, the folks at my work have tried to understand. I don't have a WC case, and I have a "desk job" which makes my situation better than many. (Thank goodness.)
Keep your eyes open for news articles and other short, written explanations. Sometimes people like to read things on their own terms, instead of listening to an explanation. Also, many times a news story is believed more than a personal tale. I don't have any examples, but I am sure others will come up with links to good stories.
A couple of I sent a news story to a group of musicians I was with. They have known me for years, but never fully comprehended the RSD. After reading this article, several said to me: "WOW! Is that what you are going through?"
I know what you mean about laying down. I have the same problem. You would think that relaxing would make you feel better, but sometimes the reverse happens. I got a prescription for Ambien, a sleep aid that I use only when necessary. I don't use it unless I really can't sleep, but it does seem to do the job.
