PASADENA - Next year's fourth Amgen Tour of California, the annual Tour de France-style professional bike race, will again make Pasadena a stop on a new 800-mile, nine-day route.
But instead of finishing up at the Rose Bowl, as it did this year, the 2009 race will end further south in Escondido.
Race officials on Wednesday announced the expanded race route for Feb. 14 through Feb. 22 - ramped up from this year's seven-day, 750 mile event.
The race begins in Sacramento, starting with a road stage in the state capital for the first time, and includes stops in 16 cities. It will reach Pasadena on Feb. 21 at the end of the next-to-last stage, starting at Santa Clarita.
Eight new stops have been added to the expanded tour: Davis, Santa Cruz, Merced, Clovis, Visalia, Paso Robles, Rancho Bernardo and Escondido.
