The first "brainstorming" session kicked off the 2008 Carnival For Pals event as local kids from our community signed up as Captains to help run the event. 10 year old Jake Tavill stood in front of his peers and explained that PALS stands for People with ALS and went on to explain what this devastating disease means. He knows too well by seeing the rapid progression of his best friend's Mom who was recently diagnosed with ALS and is now paralyzed and on a ventilator. As a head Captain in last year's Carnival, Jake arrived with a notebook filled with bullet points and ideas and excited the kids with descriptions of different committees that they could join depending upon their interests.
"Creative kids can paint banners, build games or make crafts for the Marketplace. If you have a favorite restaurant, ask them if they'd like to grill on BBQ Row and if you belong to a team or group, get your friends involved and ask them to help," he added. They have also named Carol Stillwell of Stilwell-Hansen as the Carnival Queen; not only for offering to sponsor the rides & games but for her generosity toward ALS.

As the event planning progresses, meetings will be scheduled where the kids committees will get together and organize the event. They each receive their own business cards to help promote the big day, which also serves as a free ticket as well as a reminder. They have put together a Kids rock stage to feature talented kids from our area to perform music, improv and dance as well as a live auction to raise money towards research by selling Lego bricks and building Yankee Stadium at the Carnival.

Sponsorships will benefit Joan Dancy & Pals, which currently helps over 65 patients in Monmouth & Ocean County with ALS by offering medical equipment, nursing care and financial assistance as well as holding 2 monthly support group meetings.

They are also honoring a well known Mother of 4, Rumson resident, Pam Callahan as the inspiration behind the event.

Sunday, September 28th. 12-4pm at Driftwood Cabana Club, Sea Bright, NJ
