Share the Care fund established to help Gary Hyland
The Moose Jaw Times Herald
Friends and colleagues are rallying around Moose Jaw writer and arts activist Gary Hyland.
Hyland, a poet instrumental in several local projects including the building of the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre and the establishment of the Festival of Words, has been mostly bedridden for the last few months due to worsening of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
To help Hyland’s family pay for round-the-clock care, friends and colleagues set up the Share the Care fund.
“He is requiring more home care outside what any medical plan will pay,” said Judy Casey of Moose Jaw Arts In Motion, the group administering the fund. “The expenses are getting onerous for his family.”
