what a nice story. Momma... thanks for tellin' it to us !!
we have a secret lil beauty in mah neighborhood too...
she's a tomboy, an' I never seen her in anythin' but barefeet, shorts, and a raggedy ol' T-shirt.
but with cheerin' on, an' a wee bit o' financial support from Auntie Kay, we got her all spick-n-spanned, and sent her off with high hopes that she'd win a scholarship in a contest, (Miss Sabadito Alegre), and by gosh, she WON first place !!
zippetty-do-dah, zipetty-AY!
here's the little darlin:
her mama spent 5 hours braiding her hair, and I supplied the beads, and helped purchase the dress.
see, school ISN'T free here, like in the US... the vast majority are parochial (Catholic and Christian) private schools, and one has to PAY after 8th grade, to keep attending, tuition, books, uniforms, everything.
so, the poorer kids lose out, and drop out school as young teens.
it shore does warm the coggles of mah heart to help ensure that this very smart and sweet, and VERY deserving young lady gets a chance to get ahead in the world !!!
