i asked Doc John about communication on this project and part of his reply was:

"You can try the Social Groups feature here and create a private social group. They have their own sort of message-like board. If that's not sufficient, I can go ahead and create a private forum for this group... just let me know."

He also said he uses a freeconferencecall.com site to group conference. i didn't know about it - have been graciously provided for through pipeline project for 3 years with conference call access (cough) but we burned up many lines - used it for countless advocacy projects.
