Lightbulb More Dr.s like Dr. Schwartzmann Intern training

MArtha made me recall a visit to Dr,S several years ago with my daughter. She was a mess looking for top pain control for the alodynia, RSD TOS merry go round. Dr T sent her to consult with Dr. S.

When he came into the room he asked De if the Interns on rotation from the Psych dept could observe and learn. She said of course. Dr. S did his questions, history, reviewed the CT surgery scars the pain radiating and traveling. Her spasms and the shirmp like postion her arms to the chest would make. He touched with the sharp and soft and did an excellant exam which they had to do, and comment.

Dr S said to them, that the pain scales she gave the reproduction of the pain is real. HE picked up her wrist and showed the surgery scar for CT telling them of misdiagx and treating symptoms. More strongly he told them to LISTEN to the patient, The pain is NOT in there head, know where to look or understand it and the impact on the life from not an xray but from the history and physical exam.

That to look at a normal MRI and say you can not have that pain or the patient is in someway faking is not fair.
He went through and showed when the patient says this you are to think that, and did a proceedure.

He is marvelous in teaching, wish all docs had to hear and see him about chronic pain.
