I'm interested. It sounds like the surgeon found the culprit and hopefully put an end to your suffering. Its hard to visualize the amount of area involved and the significance of it in relation to the nerve so if the doc says its significant, then I'm sure he/they know best. I wouldn't worry about getting your daily routine straight right now. You've got a lot of healing to do and your system will be a mess coming off of your meds so be patient with yourself.
