I have a cat named Marbles too - and he also likes to constantly meow.

He meows to get my attention, to ask to be picked up, to ask to play, when he wants a treat or catnip, he meows when his bedding area is all messed up and he needs me to fix it... essentially, he meows anytime he wants something from me (which is quite often).

I have found the the quickest and easiest way to shut him up is to make noises back to him... I'll meow or whine or just make weird noises that are not normal talking and when I do that he looks at me all confused and then he shuts up
