Mansoor Mohammed, the father of Indiana Fever rookie and former William Fleming standout Khadijah Whittington, died Saturday at a Hampton hospital.


Mohammed, 57, had Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and had been in the hospital’s extended-care unit since 2003. Mohammed, formerly Marvin Whittington, had suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis since Whittington was in high school.


Funeral services were held Tuesday in Roanoke. Khadijah Whittington, a former North Carolina State star, has rejoined the Fever, which will begin play in the WNBA playoffs tonight.
