Lightbulb this is called carpal/pedal spasm...

and typically indicates:

1) parathyroid disease/tumor

2) electrolyte imbalance, either potassium, and/or low magnesium.

3) imbalance between calcium and magnesium.

If attention to diet and electrolyte intake fails, you need to see a good
doctor to evaluate parathyroid functions. Once you get to the stage where you
have a full blown event, you are in a bad place.
