Well..One little slingshot wouldn't be so bad, would it? 
I'm sorry your DH's boss missuses his authority like that. He won't last too long with that kind of arrogance and insecurity. It's an ego blow to hear stuff like that from someone you work for..from ANYONE..Keep reassuring him and give it time..I'm praying for you both (and his boss, too).
