Sandi,

Soft foods would be great. But I will be honest and tell you I have had two cervical fusions; one being the C5/C6 and didn't have a problem eating any solids. Maybe others have had a different experience but eating wasn't an issue for me. I was hoarse however but that was about it and yes it can last for quite awhile. Hang in there and good luck.
