with the advent of the internet and the openess of whats available online. there rose a need for security precautions on the net. first is was mainly for the windows operating system... cause it was the big dog... everyone wanted to try to get a piece of him.
in the early days of aim i was a member of a group and we had the most fun in thechatrooms with kickiers, punters, name changers. etc,,,,, this is the time computer hacking was in its infancy for the internet. true hackers were in fact members of clans that wanted to see if the other one could outdo the other meber. not by hacking corporations or softwares but by designing and writing code to get the other one off the internet the fastest.
but then there were those who malicously did it for fun and glory to others outside the cirles.
as the internet gre and its abilityies. so did the complexity of programs and securitys. and im sure it will continue todo so.
keep your computer up to date. run antiviral software regularly and dont click on any screens that you arent sure f. when in doubt.
ctrl =+ alt + del and under applications select window and hit end task. to be safe.
the internet is a wounderous land of amazement even each day i go on.
unfortunately where there is a yin there is a yang the cycle is always circular.

And I can remember when (before we had fax machines) and I was a secretary, there was a telex machine. My boss would get telexes from all over the world and we had this lovely little Indian woman who could read telexes (how does one read all these punched out codes??) But she was able to do this. I never understood that at all.
Now I have a really important question about the control alt delete thing.
My husband is forever getting these little pop up things on the right side of the computer (on the bottom), where the date and time are.
He tells me "something popped up last night on the bottom right and I kind of thought it might be from Verizon, telling me I had a virus an click on the balloon to fix the problem".
I said "Oh my god, you clicked on it??" he said "no, you always told me not to, so I just x'd it out"
I said 'don't click anywhere on it, not even the X because it will self download".
He said "so what do I do"? and I said "hit control, alt, delete, and end task".
He's not sure "and neither am I', exactly what to select...BEFORE WE HIT END TASK.
Will it be the first thing that shows up after hitting control, alt, delete?.
So for example, if we get a popup on the lower right that says "you might have an infection, a virus, ANYTHING", what exactly do we look for BEFORE we hit END TASK??
