Bobby, good idea. If cost is better and insurance won't cover it, walking people could purchase the snow "chains" for shoes (easily removable), often in sports catalogs (LL Bean etc.) You'd have to be physically fairly able and you'd have to be aware at all times to not depend on cane if you feel it slipping, depend on feet!!!. I don't work, can stay home. If I go out, DH still very strong and helps me. You know your abilities best.
