Who Moi!!!
you are a smart cookie.
I have had to make major changes over these past 7 years (since my son left us).
I used to self-medicate with food every single night. I had my own pity party. I used to sit in front of the tv with bags of chips, dips, doodles, cupcakes, and just eat myself into a coma.
To go from THAT, to eating the way I do now, well it took some time. I have learned NEWER eating habits, and what I'm learning now is how to incorporate various foods into my diet.
I do allow myself an indulgence or two (let's say I go to a party). If you think I'm not going to have a pretzel, well forget it. I have to learn how to eat one pretzel, or one thing or another. Last week I went to my niece's birthday bash in New Jersey. They had ALL SORTS OF GOODIES. I never saw such a layout. Now if this were the old me, I would have had some party. So would Alan.
But I just sampled of bit of this, and a bit of that, I didn't go near any of the food being heated up in the Sternos because they all were in heavy butter sauces, and cream sauces, and I know my stomach. When you don't eat this and then you indulge, well I would have gotten sick. So I just ate some salad and a small slice of veggie pizza. It was enough for me.
And I did have a piece of birthday cake. I enjoyed it. One piece. The old me would have eaten 6 pieces. I would have sneaked these pieces when no one was looking. I used to do that. That's how I got to be over 300 lbs. You don't eat when everyone's looking at you. You sneak it. Did this for years.
But now I seem to have a handle on what's good for my body.
And yesterday was the icing on the cake (great example no??lol).
I had to make a trip to Alan's primary care to pick up his meds. The guy is my primary care doc also but since I go to the Accord Program at Cornell (which he knows all about), well I don't get to see this guy. Alan adores Dr. Fred. He reminds me of Dr. Oz.
So I walked in and he came out and he hugged me. This doctor is absolutely marvelous. He said "wow, look at you, you really lost it and kept it off". I thanked him for taking such good care of Alan.
My Accord study is over in April, so I will be going back to him for my regular blood work etc.
Alan and I are extremely lucky to be in the hands of this man.
So thanks for all the good protein suggestions.
I have one question. With all the fiber (and I don't have to use Benefiber any more), well, what does one do when one has more flatulence than one would want to have?
Dr. Oz said "Flatulence is perfectly normal when one is on a high fiber diet".
Easy for him to say.
I do take beano with my broccoli but honestly, would Gaviscon or Gas X be okay when one eats the way I eat?
Thanks,Melody
