A sugar glider is an 'Australian flying squirrel'. I'm not sure if they are originally from Australia or not. Maybe our resident expert can help us with that. They kind of look like a combination of a rat and bat! It's the wings that make them look like a bat. They can glide, hence the word sugar glider. We would have them fly in our living room. The are marsupials so the mommy carries her little ones in a cute little pouch. By the time we sold them that pouch was looking kind of uncomfortable! They are also,oh I forgot the word! They come out at night! Nocturnal! So they make perfect 'pocket' pets cause you can put them in your pocket during the day. But if they don't like what you are doing they sure can bite. But if they are trained right they make wonderful little pets. And they don't cost a lot of money to maintain. I think our little mommy had about 17 babies before my daughter sold the breeeding pair.
Thanks for that link Curious! It brought back many fond memories of all those little babies. It was always interesting to see how much the Dad cared for his babies and the Mom. He would sit on those little ones and let Mom have a much needed rest at the bottom of the cage.
