He has not ruled out Bi-Polar but sees him more as Major Depressive, Narcissistic Personality, ADHD, and has Mild Mental Retardation. Unfortunately he does not feel that Bariatric Treatment would be a good alternative for weight loss for him because of his lack of understanding, and unwillingness to participate. I am still going to check into the treatment and see what the Bariatric Doctor says. I am quite comfortable with the diagnosis and feel that maybe we can get somewhere now. I just hope that my expectations won't disappoint me again. I am also going to suggest that he be put back into the Middle School he was at last year and possibly start him in a Th or Th grade curriculum since he has gotten nothing out of school so far this year. All the support and suggestions here and at Psych-Central have been so helpful. It really helps me to keep my hopes up and continue the efforts. Wish us luck for the New Year, and Happy New Year to all
Hi.
well, I can identify with the Narcissistic Personality Disorder (because that was my son's original diagnosis) He subsequently found a doctor who diagnosed him with Aspergers disorder. And depression. I personally think the Narcissistic Personality Disorder fits him better than the Asperger but a person can have Aspergers traits. It's called Shadow Aspergers. He was also diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6, then we were told "no, he doesn't have this'. It was quite a bit to handle.

He's quite brilliant by the way. You just can't tell him anything. He knows everything. He was hospitalized about 30 times after he moved away. Every single time a social worke from the hospital he walked into, well they would call me up and wanted his whole background. It got to the point that I wrote up his complete history and I had it by the fax machine. That's how many times he did this.

The judge who ultimately decided to award him SSI initially said "I would never give this guy SSI, but I can't go against a doctor's note". So 7 years ago my son got on SSI and hasn't done a thing with his life since. He's a college graduate by the way and also is obese. The meds that they put him on conributed to this but he really doesn't care. He microwaves everything. Eats all fast food, etc. Doesn't do a thing all day long but watch tv and go on the computer.

He lives away from us so I really don't know anything about his life now because he's a 27 year old man. He left home at 20.

I feel for you, I really do. I've been there. It's not easy.

But you'll get through it. Moms get though lots of stuff.

Any time you want to chat or compare stories (lol), just pm me.

I've been there.

Take care and Hopefully this new year will bring you peace.
