Gazelle,
I didn't read the replies so forgive me if I repeat or missed something that you may have already said.
I have 2 very long haired hymilayians and 1 Rag Doll. I take all 3 of my cats to the groomer and have them cut into "Lion Cuts" twice a year. This is basically shaving of the cats except for boots on their feet and a mane around their necks. I also leave their tails huge and fluffy. I do it to control the shedding and also, I think my cats are healthier because they don't throw up hair balls all the time from their own constant grooming.
They look strangely cute, but it is a personal preferance. They are BEAUTIFUL with all the long flowing hair which is hard to maintain. I have always had comments about my beautiful cats and I just started this grooming process last year but I have been happier because I couldn't stand all the fur all over everything in my house and even floating in the air.
Best of luck !!!
