first ill ask . who is your isp?

second what model modem did they give you? (there is a difference between a modem and a router) here they are.

most isps will send out its own modem/router i was given a modem

i then attached a linksys router after that which provides my networks both cat5 cable and wireless.

if the isp gave you a box with one port in from phone line and one line out(cat5) to your computer that is a modem.

if your isp gave you a box with one port in from phone line and multiple outs (cat5) that is a modem router combo. if it has an antenna on it also then it is a modem/router and wireless combo.

if you have the first one which is just a modem you need a router to use with it to make a network.

if you have the second onewhich is hte modem/router combo you can run a cat5 cable to the barn.

if you have the thirdone which has the router/wireless on it as well then you need to set up your wireles on the modem itself. most ones i install from an isp has the wireless number pre assigned to it so you can just hook up your laptop and put in the security key and go.

so let me know what make and model you have from your isp and i will look it up for you cand we can go from there.

roger.

you cant hook up two modems but you can hook a modem then a router to make a network.
