Well, I sent off a note to my son, and here is the fix for the problem:
Quote:
ronically, that is part of the AT&T DSL thing! MotiveSB.exe is part of the diagnostic software for your DSL connection.
However, the reason it is failing is due to the IE update. Mom's right on the dot. Here's how to fix it. Notice it says something about verizon... you'll be looking in something like program files\SBC yahoo dsl or something. I dunno what it's called. SBC's now AT&T so...
You could also do start -> search for PSAPI.DLL and it'll find the one in the windows folder, and the one in the program filees folder. you just need to do the stuff to the one in the program files folder.
Anyways, instructrions below.
:
<QP>
This error message may be due to a program or programs (currently identified
"culprits" include Motive SmartBridge, Hal Screen Reader and Supernova
Reader Magnifier by Dolphin) that ship with an older version of PSAPI.DLL
Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located
in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL
To work around this error:
Navigate to the installation location for SmartBridge (\Program
Files\Verizon...\Smart...)
Find PSAPI.DLL and rename it to something like PSAPIOLD.DLL
Reboot the system
The program will find the new PSAPI.DLL in the \Windows\System32 directory
and function normally.

Release Notes for Internet Explorer 7:

It appears that the new download of IE 7.0 installs the second file, and
then the previous file gets caught in some loop with it.
People with DSL may have more of an issue with this, but he does not know
for sure. So I am posting this reference. All you do is rename the old file
so the computer stops looking at it. (the contents do not change).
Now I took a lot of flak for even downloading this from my husband. We get auto prompts for new updates, and I didn't know it was IE...I guess he didn't want it at all! So I get yelled at for NOT keeping updates current and I get yelled at for doing them! CAn't win!
adding... my son just called, and said, that the link in the quote above does not give "fixes"...only general info
on IE 7.0. And he also says that the new IE 7.0 is important, even if you don't use it...it has data on it for XP in general as well.
So he suggests people get it anyway, even if using Firefox like we do. That is just his opinion.
