You might check out the thread just below this one, "CBS news features the Robbs" where we are discussing the Dickey-Wicker amendment.
Obama's action today is a huge step forward, and means the availability of new stem cell lines immediately, and the funding for the research using those cells, despite the D-W amendment. His remarks seemed to leave the door open for SCNT as well, saying that he was banning “cloning for reproductive purposes.”
It also was wonderful to see the commitment to politics-free research in general.
