My daughter also has a low normal temp of just over 96, and she gets very, very sick by 101. Before I realized this I was not too concerned until she hit 103, and by then she was severely dehydrated and had to spend 4 days in the hospital. It doesn't take long either!!!
In order to avoid 101, I have to treat her at just over 99. She usually continues to escalate to 101 over the next hour, then it normally drops off. In her case, however, if she isn't still
going up after 45 min (I check very regularly), I will add on two Advil as they can be combined. Talk to the pharmacy about that ...
You will likely need to keep a close eye on him every 4 hours too.
