Even though you may not 'technically' have a remission (still showing some symptoms) you may have periods of less or more pain.

I began in 1986 and through the years, have had long periods where the pain was almost gone, the color was almost normal, and swelling was almost down. Yay!

Then for no apparent reason, I would go through a period where the pain and everything else was back as badly as ever. I don't know how typical this is, but I just wanted to share my experience.
