low potassium levels will also cause weakness and fainting:

People with chronic pain may not eat properly, and we need 4.5 grams of potassium daily.

There are some hereditary (genetic) errors that will also lead to low potassium. Some drugs will lower potassium, and so will chronic diarrhea.
