I saw a german shepherd mix of some sort get hit by a car a couple of years ago. The driver stopped, I stopped...we tried to find the dog, but it had ran off...bleeding...
I ended up calling the humane society and reporting what had happened. I dont know if they ever found the dog. I can still see that dog getting hit. Very scary.
I dont know why people dont stop when they run over a dog. My first dog was a Yorkie Terrier. He was blind, and somehow got out of our yard one day to the block on the other side of mine. Someone ran him over, clipped him. He had a dislocated left hip. The neighbors on the other side of us saw it happen, and came running over to get my mom. (I think I was about 7 at the time) The vet came to our house (they used to make house calls then) and he fixed Killer up. Happened the same weekend I broke my left arm. So we were both walking around with a sling. (well, he was more taped up than anything)
In 1989, on my birthday, my aunt was about to give me her chihuahua, since Smackers and I had been best buddies since they got her. (she was a year old) Well, Smackers had a bad habit of following anyone who called her name. My cousin's friends were at the house that day, and when they were leaving, they thought it would be funny to call Smackers across the street. I think they were planning on taking her home, and calling my cousin to come get her as a ploy to be able to play longer.
They had no idea Smackers was about to be a birthday gift for me. Smackers started across the yard, and was just entering the street (side street right next to a really busy street) and someone turned the corner, speeding. She was such a little dog, that it probably just barely clipped her, but that was enough.
The neighbor came over to get my aunt, and had warned her not to let my cousin come out. (I was 20, and my cousin was 10) I walked out, and my cousin followed me. We both saw Smackers laying in the curb, looking like she was sleeping, except her eyes were open. I grabbed my cousin and we both ran back into the house. I was totally heartbroken. Smackers was the only other dog I ever had That Connection with, like I had with TinyMonsters. I miss her just as much as I miss Tiny. (and Tiny's front right paw was bigger than she ever was)
I hate it when dogs die. They're one of the best things in the world to have. Gotta love dogs! (I want a new one now...)
