....we see the effects that our thinking has upon our condition when stress knocks us for a loop. There is nothing more going on in that example than our mind wrestling with itself. No lion, tiger, or bear - just a deadline or other idea that we have accepted as being important, even if it is not really so. Entirely within our mind we have the power to render ourselves totally helpless in minutes. Absolutely no one nor any thing is required but us.
So, as Indigogo and others have pointed out, why is it hard for us to accept that the opposite power might exist? When we are rigid and miserable, if we are fortunate enough to have someone to rub our back and shoulders, is the endorphin flood that results not an example of that power? If we sit quietly and concentrate on the memory of that massage is there not an echo that is also an example?
Dopamine is about movement but it is also about pleasure and the anticipation of pleasure. We need pleasures both large and small and we need to anticipate them....with pleasure! Spoil yourself and just get down and roll around in the sensation. Let it soak into your bones. You've been a good scout all your life. Dare to be totally selfish for one hour per day. Tell 'em Dr. Feelgood prescribed it.
