Default Newbie to Diabetes

Man, it's been a long journey. I started out on this web site in the Thoracic Outlet Syndrome sections. Then when my lumbar gave out I hit the spinal section. Then when I thought I had endometriosis I headed for that site. Now I'm here on the diabetes site.

About nine months I started having pain in my right abdomen. At that point the pain lasted two to three days at a time. Then it got worse and the episodes lasted longer. Now it's pretty much full time. I was also having female problems as well. So my family dr ordered a slew of tests. I went to the gyn and got a shot of Lupron to help diagnose endo. The pain has been steady for months now. I thought the Lupron was going to do it's thing but it didn't.

So Thurday night after three rounds of dry heaves and massive pain, I couldn't take it any more. My husband drove me to the ER for a pain shot. It's been several months since I was that desparate. Although the pain has been so horrendous I could have hit the ER nightly. The ER dr took lots of blood, got me ready for a CAT scan yet again, and finally gave me dilatid for the pain. That is the only stuff that kills it.

As we were waiting for all this to happen, the Dr came and said did I know my sugar was 450. I was shocked. Apparently diabetes can cause abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant. Who knew??? I had been put on glucophage a year ago but with all the other stuff I was taking I picked that one to drop. I had not other symptoms at that point.

So the ER dr admitted me. My sugar in the 36 hours of so I was at the hospital never went below 198. It was mostly in the 250's and up. They started giving me insulin right away. The ER dr opened my IV drip to full power. They put in two bags in about three hours.

The dr also thinks I have gastroporesis (slow stomach) as well. I'm taking reglan, baby asprin, socor, glucophage in addition to my pain stuff, ambian, vicoden, lyrica, protonix. I may have missed one but I can't believe I'm taking so many meds. It really stinks.

So now I go to my family dr this week to try to get my sugar under control. I'm going to be so ****** if I've suffered for nine months and this is fixable with insulin. I think my dr thought hmmm, another pain, it's gotta be chronic and there's not much we can do with. I've seen her for four years for pain.

So that's my story. I guess I'll start reading what is on this diabetes forum and become knowledgeable.
