The sinuvertebral nerve may indeed be responsible for your leg pain. However I don't think the disc is the cause of it. The most common affected level is the L4-5 level. The nerve runs (most likely) from just distal of the DRG of L4 towards the pedicle of L5 and possibly below this to the anterior epidural space. Local sensitization through a diffuse inflammatory process (arthritis of the lumbar spine) and possible through sympathetic activity ("RSD" type activity), may lead to severe pain in this region which seems to radiate down the leg into the foot in a pattern very similar to "sciatica". (Yours is not necessarily the same!) Therefore surgical intervention on the disc (in particular not on L3 or L5) may not solve your problem. Interruption of the sinuvertebral nerve at L4-5 might.
