I put red as background color and letters are still white and when I select an icon, letters are white over a grey box

To make the Icon Text Black
to get black text under your icons is turn off the drop shadows on the text.
To do so go Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Performance Settings and there is a visual effect to turn on/off drop shadows. Turn it off. With Shadows the text is white, without shadows the text is black.

I did that and the letters remain white !!!!!!!! Im desperated !
