Hello and Welcome to NeuroTalk, Taresaj! You will meet many great people here who i'm sure will try and help you if they can !!

I'm sorry to hear about everything that you are dealing with right now ! I really hope you are able to find something to help you soon and get some answers for what is causing your pain!

I'm not sure if the blocks could cause a hernitated disc however I can tell you what happened in my case with blocks. I have had 3 blocks, 2 injected directly into my RSD limb and the other in my spine.

I was 12 years old when I developed RSD in my left leg after an ankle sprain. When my doctor diagnosed me with RSD, he injected directly into my RSD foot near the ankle bone with a drug called Guanethidine.

As soon as I woke from the block, I found that I couldn't walk at all. Everytime I tried to walk, my leg would shoot out in front of me and I fell to the ground. It got so bad that I had to use a wheelchair everywhere I went and rely on my mum to do everything for me.

My Doctor had never seen a reaction like that before and it was only after I had the block that my mum found an article on the internet stating never to inject into an RSD limb and by that time, it was too late, the complications had already arose.

A few months later, I developed an ingrown toenail on my RSD leg. We tried to ignore it but eventually, it had to be removed as it became really infected. Because my foot is so sensitive, my dr put me to sleep for the procedure and did a ring block into my toe to supposidely try and dull the pain.

From that supposidley 'minor' procedure, I developed severe myoclonic spasms in my leg. My leg jerks around in the air on it's own uncontrolabley. I had the toenail removed last year and still have the spasms. My dr says that I have the most 'wound up' nerves he has ever seen and I have been told that I MUST stay away from all surgery unless it is absolutely nescasary.

At the end of last year, my Physios decided that they wanted to try and use a splint for me in Physio as I have pretty bad Dystonia (a movemenet disorder) in my RSD leg. I had to be put to sleep under general anaesthetic whilst they moulded a cast to the shape of my leg and my dr decided to do an epidural on me as he knew it would make the pain worse with them messing with my leg.

He injected into my spinal cord and thankfully, that procedure went OK and I didn't have any complications and the effects of the drug (Ketamine) lasted about 6 hours. I can still feel pain in my spinal cord at the bottom of my back though if anyone presses on too hard or I bend over too much and it is really painful at times. My Physio's told me that it was called 'remembered pain' and that it is pretty common with epidurals.

I have heard of people having spreads from blocks. Theres quite a few people on here who have had bad reactions from blocks. I guess everyone is difficult, what works for one person, isn't going to work for another unfortunately and everyone reacts differently.

I hope you can find out what is causing your additional pain and problems real soon. Try and move as much as possible - even though it is really painful - as that is probably the one thing that will help you in the long run. If your doctor has told you not to overdo it or move too much though, follow his/her advice.

Do you have an appt to see your doctor anytime soon to get a scan/xray to show if there is an herniated disc? I'd call if not and see if they have any advice and explain that you are concerned and in lots of pain.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you get some answers soon! You will be in my thoughts and please keep us posted when you can!!

Alison.
