This is the Eustachian tube closing and opening. It makes a crunking sound.
Pinch your nose and gently blow, and try to pop your ears. If they won't try taking some decongestants, and do it again in an hour. Once you pop that ear, turn your head in the opposite direction with that ear up, and let the fluid drain out down your throat. If you swallow it might close up again. So you may have to repop it. My ENT suggested doing this maneuver every hour until the congestion eases.
If you cannot pop your ear at all...the fluid cannot come out of the middle ear, and you may get an infection. But usually you can clear it yourself. You might need some Zyrtec if this is allergically triggered. Grasses right now are pollinating and very troublesome.
