Hi Pamster,

Sorry to hear of yet another tooth problem :-(
A tooth can break off like this for many reasons. Decay or a large filling will cause a tooth to break. Sometimes root canaled teeth break off like this because they are weak from having no vitality. Or the tooth could have been fractured and you just didn't know it.

If you are not having any pain it may be because the nerve in the tooth has died which means there is an infection brewing in the tooth. I know you plan on taking care of this.... but please do not wait too long because once the infection starts to spread it will become painful.
