My feet and legs are always swollen. My internist, who is also a vein specialist, did several tests on my legs and found that the blood between my knees and ankles flows the wrong direction which causes the liquid to puddle.
He prescribed some compression hose for me which really help if you get them on as soon as you wake up before the legs get swollen. They are very difficult to get on and off, so if you can't get them on, the second best thing is to elevate your legs as much as possible during the day.
I have found that even sitting in my recliner helps the blood flow back and my feet become less swollen. I also bought an adjustable bed which elevates my legs so they are above my heart and it is a big help in reducing the edema in my legs.
