Some cities and towns I have lived in offer free water testing if you have city water and one did when we were wondering about our private well water.
You go to the water company office (call first) and they will give you a small glass jar with instructions. You fill it with your tap water and return it. You may have to wait a week for results.
Usually dry skin and hair are the result of hard water. Even if you have a water softener have your water tested as it may need adjustments.
We have had water softeners in the last three houses and we can really tell the difference if we stay in a hotel or with friends who have "hard water".
Our hair and skin is dry and flakes and we look forward to getting home to soft water.
If you have a pool the pool company will do it free too.
