Hi,

Yes, the docs focus on mania more than depression.
I think that they feel that mania is more destructive than depression. Also, the meds for mania are easier for them to prescribe than the meds for depression are.

I remember being on 10 mgs of ritalin for a few years. It gave me energy and clarity. I loved it actually but it was a hassle at the pharmacy because the state had strict rules about the script and even about picking it up.


I've read about Modafinil on the web. Some pdocs prescribe it for sleepiness. It seems to help some folks with bipolars.

If your pdoc has got you close to the right med regime but not quite good enough, you can work on other things
-- good diet (esp stay away from carbs and sweets)
--exercise
--strict sleep hygiene
--some sunlight
--a regular schedule.

Some folks find that keeping track of their behaviors can work along side (or improve on) the meds.
