Default Metformin and B12 deficiency

There are many references to Metformin and B12 deficiency in the medical literature, but this is one of the more recent. If you must take Metformin, please take B12 supplements and have your B12 level monitored! You want to be top of the range. Low B12 can cause neuropathy and many other neurological symptoms...up to and including dementia.

Quote:
Researchers found that 40% of type 2 diabetes patients using metformin had vitamin B12 deficiency or were in the low-normal range for the essential vitamin. And 77% of metformin users with vitamin B12 deficiency also had peripheral neuropathy, a common form of nerve damage associated with type 2 diabetes. http://diabetes.webmd.com/news/20090...b12-deficiency
